New Things

AlexRossSuperman
So, we’ve got a new Network Manager and I couldn’t be more excited! He’s bringing some experience about how things are SUPPOSED to work that I just don’t have.  He’s the brains, I’m the brawn…and it’s working out quite well.  I’ve been yearning for this guidance for quite some time and am looking for the opportunity to expand my knowledge beyond just keeping everything running.

I’m excited to implement some new changes, we’re upgrading to Exchange 2007, Windows Server 2008 domain controllers, finally digging into Group Policy and possibly having to fly around the world to upgrade our overseas offices…I’ll be like Superman, but with an airplane and laptop.

Also, the experience he brings with his prior experience in the world of security.  We’ve touched on the subject a bit at my office, but like I’ve said, I just keep the things in place running.  Upgrading the firewall, upgrading the entire infrastructure for the new security policies.  It’s all very exciting for a geek like me.

As this continues on, my resume will also flourish.

Also, my web development company has been doing well too.  I’m taking on more tasks and learning more everyday.  Things are going so good career-wise, I would’ve never believed I’d be here.

Windoze 7 RC1

I’m installing Windows 7 RC1 on my MacBook Pro using VMWare Fusion. I love my jobby-job!

It never ends…

Conficker Free.  Spambot.  Now, the AC unit dies in our server room on a Saturday evening.  Luckily for me, I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve.  The first step was to turn off the AC unit on the thermostat.  After a few seconds, I turned it back on…and progress!  Cold air was blowing out…but it was only keeping the server room from getting hotter, it wasn’t going back down.

Try again with the on/off schtick.  This time, I take 10 minutes of leaving it off.  This brought it down a few degrees — but then it plateaued at 83 degrees.

This isn’t going to work.  This time, I turn off the AC again at the thermostat…then went to the circuit breaker and flipped the switch.  I turned it back on, then went outside for a smoke.  Upon returning, I turned on the AC again in the server room.  I’m now down to 80.6 degrees and counting.

Hopefully this will resolve it.  I really don’t want to have to call the building maintenance people and our AC people on a Saturday night…

One day…everything will be fine again :-/

cutwail spamBOT

This is exactly what a motherf*cker looks like. Exactly!

This is what a motherf*cker looks like.

YOU MOTHERF*CKER!!  I was looking forward to an easy day after all of the stupid Conficker.C hype yesterday…but as soon as I walked into the office this morning — BAM!  Users sending NDRs due to blacklisting on spamhaus.  WTF?!

It’s been a hell of a day trying to isolate which computer, out of 150, you’re hiding in.  I still don’t know.  But I made some adjustments to the firewall and now your nefarious activities can no longer bother anyone.

Hopefully this resolves your stupidness.  I mean, look at you…with your spam chest and your stupid dome head.

Now I’ve gotta keep an eye out on the spam lists…if we’re getting added to more lists, then you’re winning.  If we’re being removed from lists…then I win.

…and I never lose.

CONFICKER C!!!11one

Kinda like this, but more ambitious

Kinda like this, but more ambitious

I’m spending the day researching the soon-to-be notorious Conficker C Worm.

Conficker C made its rounds in November and was able to contact 500 domains a day. Now, it’s morphed and can contact 50,000 domains a day.

It’s assumed that on April 1, Conficker will either take over the world or morph again.

So, today…I’m reasearching and planning and it’ll probably be nothing more than a blip…just like the hype surrounding Y2K.

Welcome, New Toy Friend

Exchanging Clusters

I know, I know. Another douchebag on the Internet with a blog, bitching about things nobody cares about.

Welcome friends!

Personally, I’ve seen better days. I’ve spent the day researching different types of clustering techniques in Exchange 2007.

I couldn’t be more bored. What happened to me? Where did my passion go? I used to love live for this stuff.

New bosses, being told that I’m not good enough and social anxiety disorder…THAT’S what happened.

Anyways…

Tales of an IT A-Hole

Today, I’m at work and NOT in a good mood. Last night my girlfriend and I split. I was up until well past 3am trying to work things out in my head.

I’ve snapped at a few users today. I’ve made an ass of myself and I’m going to go home and sulk in peace.

Although, some users really are idiots and deserve every bit. Like the girl who flooded my inbox with messages that went into her spam folder. She was looking to have them applied to the “allowed senders” list.

The title of one of the emails was “Look at this dildo!” I mean, how dense can you be…

Anyways, not just IT…but the entire universe is against me today and the universe is winning.

Is it really THAT bad that I want to hide until the universe goes away?
